Tuning in

I have realised that although the web safe setting are working on my device, they are surprisingly not working on my kids device and you are able to access restricted websites straight away. i have tried to solve this issue by calling up Virgin media but they are unable to understand how is this possible...any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been on a false safety sleep all along.....

Is the laptop connected to Virgin Media's Hub or another router? If the former then try the following:

  1. Click on the Start menu, then click on Control Panel.
  2. Click on Network and Internet.
  3. Click on Change Adapter Settings.
  4. Right click on the Wi-Fi network you are connected to, then click Properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (or Version 6 if desired).
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Write down any existing DNS server entries for future reference.
  8. Select Obtain a DNS server address  automatically
  9. Click OK, then Close
  10. Restart your browser
  11. Go to https://1.1.1.1/help and confirm reported AS Name is Virgin Media
  12. Access to some VPN providers is blocked by default so you should not be able to visit https://www.nordvpn.com
    Is that the case?

NB: if at any point things are not working as expected repeating the above steps but using the previously noted settings

On the device(s) go https://1.1.1.1/help and post the AS Name value here

FYI: Web Safe requires use of Virgin Media's DNS and though this cannot be changed on the Hub it can be if using another router or on the device itself.

  • post the noted value here

AS Name is Google

The device is not using Virgin Media's DNS so Web Safe cannot function. What device(s) are reporting the AS Name as Google, i.e. Android, iOS, Windows, etc.

its a windows laptop
