verifying a field sales agent

Hi, I was called by someone saying they are a sales rep from Virgin. As I was looking to renew my broadband contract, I didn't find it suspicious, but then it dawned on me that he called from a private mobile phone number. I ordered a broadband package, but when I called Virgin Media (official number), they could not find my order on the system. Was I scammed? Can I send you the caller's details?

Our Virgin staff would of been dressed in an uniform and also had ID with them, did they have one with them?

Also sometimes it can take up to 24 hours for the order to appear on our system when was this order placed?
