Web safe not working on one device, but works on others

Web safe works on all but one device - a Windows laptop.  Why might this be?

Re: Web safe not working on one device, but works on others

DNS standard leak test (dnsleaktest.com) does not work on the Windows laptop.  On the Mac, it works and confirms using Virgin's DNS.

On Windows laptop, a test on ipleak.net shows that there are 57 DNS addresses routing through Belgium.  Some sort of DND hijack?

On your Windows laptop open a command shell and type ipconfig /all and post the output produced for lines beginning DNS Server . . . . . . . . . . . : along with the associated adapter name appropriately redacted if needed.

Finally got around to trying ipleak.net and selecting the test results for the additional DNS entries shows they belong to Google.

BTW you may wish to revoke sharing of the document now the cause for Web Safe not working is known.

Re: Web safe not working on one device, but works on others

Hi,

Thx for your response.  How do I change this on a Win7 laptop.  Note that my Mac is confirming its on the Virgin network, but I assuming the Windows pc can be on another - Googles?

Wireless LAN adapter WiFi:

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 8.8.8.8
                                    8.8.4.4

The ipconfig output seems to indicate that the DNS servers have been manually set in Windows 7. To confirm and undo this try:

  • select Start button, Control Panel, type adapter in the search box, and then under Network and Sharing Center, select View network connections
  • right click on Wireless LAN adapter WiFi (with the description Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless) and select Properties from pop-up menu
Note: you may be prompted for administrator password or confirmation
  • select Networking tab, then Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and Properties button
  • select Obtain DNS server address automatically radio button
Note: Use the following DNS server addresses was previously set with the following Preferred DNS and Alternate DNS IP addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
  • select OK button and then Close button
