I have flagged your post to the Forum Moderators to ask for your email address to be redacted. If you can still edit your post you can do that yourself.

Perhaps the reason that it has been hacked is because you have put it on other forum's or social media in the past. That is a great way to get inundated with spam and to draw your email address to the attention of all the bad guys out there.

Regarding deleting that address:

1) Do you still have a VM broadband account?

2) If so is this Blueyonder address showing when you sign in to My Virginmedia?

3) If it is and it is not your primary email address you can delete it yourself using my Viirgin Media. Primary email addresses cannot be deleted.

If you are no longer a VM broadband account holder, VM should have deleted the Blueyonder account 90 days after you ceased to be a customer. In reality these orphan accounts can linger on for years.

Once you have confirmed that you are no longer a VM Broadband customer, one of VM Forum Team (VM employees) can arrange for the email account to be deleted but it may take a day or two before they get to this post.

Re: Hacked e-mail address

Oddly Mailtest.com shows the email address as being non existent, so I wonder how the op has changed the password.

PS. I also flagged the post for the same reason as ceonoby

Re: Hacked e-mail address

Hi I am no longer a VMware broadband customer , left a few years ago , was a v mobile customer until this week , my virgin account was hacked 4 weeks ago  , had poor customer service from virgin in dealing with it and was left with no choice but to cancel my contract. Would a great weight of my mind if ################ was deleted for ever.

cheers jim

That is odd and would suggest a case of spoofing rather than a compromised email account; however it is good to see Equifax's diligence.

That  does not prove that your email account still exists.

The 'From' field in an incoming messages is completely unrelated to the real sending address. It can contain anything. It's a trick that scammers and spammers have been using for years.

"showed me my password and asked for money or he would blackmail me"

That is something that scammers and online extortionists have started using but again it does not prove that your email account still exists.

Enter your blueyonder email address into this email address checker and see what is says. http://mailtester.com/

Re: Hacked e-mail address

Would this be the mail that also says something along the lines of.

"I've hacked your webcam and I have videos of every disgusting little thing you've done etc."

This is a known scam, in many cases the password used is an old out of date password used picked up from one of the many breaches across the internet, (many people use the same password across multiple accounts anyway 😞 which is a known issue)

I had a few of those a while back - the problem was that the password used WASN'T my current password, (although it was an old one), and while it did indeed have my address in the From: line, it wasn't sent from Virgin Media's email servers.  (sadly I don't have the copies anymore - else I'd share the headers).

This scam works on the following principles.

1, That a lot of people do indeed visit porn sites - often viewing content that they wouldn't like to get out.
2. That many people use the same password across many different accounts, and rarely change them.
3. That people don't know how email works and how easy it is to spoof the From: address in an email.

Did this mail end up in your inbox or your spam folder by any chance?

Tim

Re: Hacked e-mail address

We’ve had to cancel our Virgin Media today for the exact same reason.

On what planet does it make sense that an email address can’t be deleted?

Mind boggling!
