Can't disable Web Safe which is blocking me from my own mail server

i recently moved and decided to upgrade to the 1gig line as it would litterally be cheaper for me than the 500m i had before, but now some of my traffic is being blocked by virgins "web safe" features.

i have already gone into the settings and disabled the virus and child protection, but the filter is still not gone and it blocks my own mail server as malicious. I have already reached out to support and was promised it was fixed and that i should be able to access the internet again with no filter in place in a few hours. this was over a week ago and the filter still isn't gone.

i have already restarted the hub and all that stuff that was recommended in other threads, but apparently there is no other way than to ask @ModTeam to raise a ticket with IT and wait :T

Hi @icksie,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

I am so sorry to hear that you appear to be facing some problems with WebSafe recently. What is it that you're attempting to access which is displaying a problem, and what's the error that appears?

Thanks,

There's allways the option to change your local DNS settings to something other than VM which will over-ride the blocking, including secure DNS and family safe varieties. Do you know how to do that? If not, have a look at:

https://www.sordum.org/7952/dns-jumper-v2-2/

If VM block your own server, then maybe it's on a blocklist of known spam IPs, meaning your own VM IP is listed as bad. It happens, and mine is listed on 3 at the time I write this, and it's from a previous user of the IP address. It won't be removed unless I ask, and even then, some blocklist maintainers will refuse the request.

https://www.virginmedia.com/help/security/is-my-ip-address-blacklisted.

sorry for replying after so long, i didn't receive any notifications and didn't see this until i had to come back about another problem :,)

I am trying to access my own mail server, but can't because your DNS is blocking it for whatever reason. The error message on the page states that access has been blocked because of security concerns even though a) all web safe settings are disabled and should not block a single thing and b) my domains are not on any blacklists i can find

and thanks for the advice @Data, i know how to do that but would prefer if my connection  just did what it was supposed to in the first place :T

Hi @icksie,

Thank you for coming back to us about this ongoing issue. Sorry to hear that you're still having problems with this after a few weeks.

Have you attempted to change your DNS settings as @Data advised to see if this can correct your issue?

You can check if all your needed Web Safe Settings are amended to you want on your online account to see if this can help. Let us know how you're getting on and if you need any further help.

Thank you.

changing the DNS settings on one device works, but i can't do it for every device that needs to connect to my mail server (especially my phone, it seems to ignore DNS settings for some reason so it doesn't even work on there).

I'd prefer it if everything was properly disabled on VMs side like it should be, i've seen other people post on the forum with the same problem and getting it fixed by mods behind the scenes somehow
