I called Virgin media today to report that the cover of the outside cable entry box, has disintegrated after many years. I was told that I would have to pay for the repair, I find that outrageous as it belongs to Virgin media and I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years. I am not going to pay for this repair

You do not have to pay.
Call Customer Services on 0345 454 1111/150 if you have a VM landline or wait a day or two for a VM staff member to get to your post.
