We are moving house and our new landlord does not have cables installed yet, she said there is a phone line. 

Can virgin broadband use this to connect or does it have to install the cables as we would need permission and risk landlord could not want that installed into house

VM uses its own cables/network to provide broadband. You would need a VM cable installing if there is not one already. You would need your landlord's permission to do this.

thanks, is this the same for all internet? as if our landlord refuses to let it be installed we would have to go to other services?

If your new home has an Openreach phone line in place you should be able to get a connection from one of the Openreach-based providers without the need for additional wiring outside.

However, check with your landlord still, even if you go that route. There may be a small amount of internal wiring work to do with a connection via a phone line. It would be advisable to get written permission from your landlord to avoid any problems in the future from the landlord claiming you had carried out any unauthorised work at the property.

While it’s true you can get broadband through a BT phone line, they are converting all their network to fibre and the phones will eventually run from this. So in the future if you go to BT at the present you will have to have their fibre installed.

Thank you for getting in touch and your interest in joining us and using our services. As advised kindly by our helpful community members we would need to install our own cabling for you to use our services and you will need your landlords permission for this. 

Gaining permission goes through the wayleave process. A wayleave is a right of way granted by a landowner, typically for purposes such as the installation of telegraph wires or laying of pipes. In this case, it would be laying and installing cable and other relevant equipment.
