What is the £25 activation fee for?

I was thinking of upgrading my broadband to Vivid 200 but there is a £25 activation fee that I'm reluctant to pay.

I have a Superhub 2 which I use in modem mode.

What is the activation fee for exactly?

It is for activation of a new Hub.  But your SH2 is capable of running the 200 package (I have both too) so you shouldn't need a new Hub or pay an activation fee.  Call again and argue that case.

Services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired 2 WiFi,) SH2 in modem mode with Airport Extreme Router. On VIVID200, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Thanks.

I was thinking of going to my Virgin shop and discussing it with them.

dont waste your time going to the shop they will have no idea - ring retentions - be aware that changing to 200 will start a new contract - you dont need a new hub - thats not to say they wont want to send one - if they do refuse it

if you upgrade online it will tell you they are sending a hub3 - again you dont need one for 200

dial 150 or 0345 454 1111 and follow the prompts to - 'thinking of leaving us' - then "technical issues" - dont worry about that they do much more - open 8am -10pm 7 days a week - should take you to a UK call centre

The activation fee is for new kit, but you don't need to change your SH2 which is already activated. It will just need a replacement configuration file and a reboot to provide you with VIVID 200.

Re: What is the £25 activation fee for?

Right just phoned retentions and here is the deal.

The fee was waived.
I have to have the Superhub 3 as the Superhub 2 is being phased out.
The new speed/contract starts as soon as I plug in Superhub 3.
I currently pay £43 for Vivid 100 and I'll be getting Vivid 200 for £36.

The fee was waived by issuing me a £40 refund on my next bill.

So quids in all round.

Thanks everyone.

sort of good and sort of true - you dont have to have the hub3 - you may not want the hub3 if you are a gamer - they can send the config file to the sh2 - many have it and wont upgrade their package to better speeds because they dont want the hub3

assuming all they say about the money actually happens then fine - but things do not get from the verbal promise to the contract/bill so keep your eye on things

not sure about the statement that your speed will start when you plug the hub3 in - they have to send a config file - afaik that has to be sent AFTER the hub becomes active

bottom line as far as i am concerned is you got the story according to the agent you spoke to - if that was offshore then anything is possible - if it was the UK then i say they are wrong

if you have agreed a price you can have 2oo today - they just need to send the correct config file to the SH2

this should get you the UK if you want to push it

dial 150 or 0345 454 1111 and follow the prompts to - 'thinking of leaving us' - then "technical issues" - dont worry about that they do much more - open 8am -10pm 7 days a week - should take you to a UK call centre

Cynical answer to your question is profit.

Re: What is the £25 activation fee for?

All setup and working.

To activate it I had to make an automated call to Virgin who activated my equipment.

All went well.

There's no mention of how to get the hub 3 into modem mode.

Luckily I knew how to do it.
