Hey all, signed up for VM a couple of weeks ago and due to get it installed in a couple of weeks to coincide with my BT contract ending. Guy I spoke to on the phone said they would handle the changeover with BT and I wouldn't have to phone them up to cancel, but all the info I have found online says I do need to phone BT to cancel so does anybody know what's what?

The key factor here is whether or not you are transferring your phone number. If you are then BT have to terminate the line (and your contract) at the point of switch over since they can't provide the service. (Knowing BT, however, the will still try to charge you for the, now none existent, services).
If you are not moving a phone number then the BT line and associated BB service will continue. You would have to give BT notice.
