Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

I have a super hub 3 which has an intermittent and slow connection for the first 10-15 minutes of using it. For example after not using the internet over night or when I'm at work. When I then try using it on my computer it works very slowly.

When pinging google the connection responses will be as below

2019-02-18 20_14_17-C__WINDOWS_system32_cmd.exe.png

After about 15 minutes it will then start responding constantly with a time of around 14-19ms and for the rest of the time using the internet it will be fast loading websites and playing games

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

I have reset the super hub to default and then put in modem mode - this made no difference

Thanks 😄

Re: Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

Can't see pings to google yet but I'm guessing it show high pings?

From what your say is that you need to warm up the connection when its not in use. Do you leave the hub on all the time? If you leave a PC on and do ping -t 194.168.4.100 does that stop the slow connection?

Re: Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

Thanks for the reply

Yeah the google ping shows high pings and intermittently there is no reply

'Warming up the connection' would be a good term for it - once the ping stabilises after its been going for about 15 minutes the connection stays fine for as long as I use it

It is only when it is left with nothing trying to use it (all computers off etc) when it then needs to be warmed up again

The hub is left on all the time

I didn't really want to have to leave my pc on over night or when I'm at work - is there any way to setup a ping to run from the hub itself?

Re: Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

Someone else had a issue like this but they turned the hub off at night and no in the morning.

You could use BQM to ping your hub if you set it up to 'Respond to ICMP echo requests sent to WAN IP'

Re: Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

Tried BQM as you mentioned

Initially it doesn't seem to be helping > https://www.thinkbroadband.com/broadband/monitoring/quality/share/e5c5d53e1b9fb2195758659a8e62c2c8ac...

Turned off the PC and went out for a bit and connection has same issue for first 10-15 minutes

BQM also shows the issue on the graph

Hi Siuko,

We can have a look at your hub from here so we'll pop you a personal message and take it from there.

Thanks.

Re: Super Hub 3 - unstable connection for first 10 minutes

Hi Emma

I've now cancelled the engineer appointment as I worked out what was causing it

It was the oculus rift update service that was using that much bandwidth it was affecting all machines on my network until it had finished updating!! (it affecting all computers on my network made me think it wasn't something on my pc that could cause it! I've never seen anything like it - but when googling it - it is a known issue)

Now I've disabled the service I don't get the initial slowness

Sorry for wasting your time and thank you so much for the help you provided

Regards

David
