Struggling to get a connection date

I moved to my new house on 29th July and ordered virgin broadband for the first time. Order went through fine, with activation set for 2nd August. However, apparently the people that lived there before me haven't cancelled properly and gave a months notice a week or so ago, their contract ends on 18th August and Virgin telling me I can't get activated until 19th.

I was asked to provide proof of ownership, however as I only got the house yesterday, I'm still waiting for all the paperwork. I got my solicitor to send me an email so I could forward that to Virgin, but Virgin are saying that's not enough.

I can't get hold of the previous owners, need broadband from Monday, but completely stuck as to what to do. I can't contact the previous owners myself.

What should I do?
