Speed has suddenly dropped from 200 to 5-10 Mbps

Speed has been solid and very reliable for months and today I noticed my cat 6 wired connection is struggling to get above 10Mbps on ookla speedtest, ie:

PING ms:  DOWNLOAD Mbps 7.18  UPLOAD Mbps 21.05

Any help would be appreciated.

interesting figures - rubbish sums them up

check the coax connections are tight - worth doing a full reset - assuming that does nothing you need a tech to sort it - wait here for VM or risk the script readers on the phone

Re: Speed has suddenly dropped from 200 to 5-10 Mbps

Tony,

thank you for the prompt reply. I wonder how much of this is down to original cable that was installed many years ago. The contractor pinned the cable to the next door neighbours garden wall.  That neighbour later chose to remove the wall leaving an exposed cable in my front garden (a tiny area, 14'x3'). I have done my best to keep it out of harms way but it does feel vulnerable as this is where the wheelie bins live.

Re: Speed has suddenly dropped from 200 to 5-10 Mbps

Old cables are fine for many years as long as they are intact. Problems are often caused by badly crushed or acutely bent cables. A visual inspection of the cable would be a good idea.

Hi goport,

Thanks for posting. I am sorry for the low speeds. Are you experiencing slow speeds, on a wired/wireless connection or both?

Can you also check the cables are fully tightened for me, and then check if by doing this has fixed the speeds?

If this doesn't fix things, please let me know,

Kind regards,

Re: Speed has suddenly dropped from 200 to 5-10 Mbps

Tony, Tudor and John,

Many thanks for your advice and assistance. I checked the cable at the back of the superhub, it was slightly loose and tightening it made a significant difference to speeds.

Thank you all.
