Second connection

first posting, hi all!

We have a second cable connection in a spare room which we'd like to run a second connection to so my wife can work from home in peace. Have a superhub3 setup in the living room, and another connection on the wall in the spare room. The WiFi from the lounge doesn't reach the spare room v well. Can I connect an old superhub2ac to the wall and run an ethernet into it for the wife's laptop?

Unfortunately not.

Well, you can, if you take out a second contract and pay for two BB connections.

You're better off buying a decent wifi solution for the house though, it'll be much cheaper and will likely cure any  wifi issues you currently have..  ASsuming that the underlying connection is stable and you have no issues with it..

Check out the tp-link deco range - it starts at about £100 for an entry level system and goes up to several hundred for an all singing, all dancing with all the latest wifi tech..

Thank you, that's the answer I was kinda expecting. Getting hold of virgin seems especially difficult at the moment, so I can't imagine explaining a second connection would be easy or cheap. WiFi boosters or Might just see if power line adapters work with our ancient house wiring first.

The more ancient the house wiring the more likely that powerline adapters would work.

You should bite bullet and run an Ethernet cable from the hub to the spare room. This will involve drilling and lifting floorboards, get a builder or electrician to do this if you can't. Terminate the cable at an RJ45 wall socket (best) and plug in your SH2 as it can now be repurposed to extend your LAN.
