That white cable with the yellow connector on it is RG6 and is running to a faceplate upstairs somewhere. It should then in turn be connected to the virgin network. 

Is there a barrel connecting your quickstart cable to the yellow connector? If not that's probably all it needs.

The good news is that there shouldn't be any need to drill anything at all if that cable in the photo is unaltered from when you last had VM. A tech is just going to make sure the chain is connected all the way back to the distribution point in the street.

This is what the virgin guy did! I thought it was a redundant tv arial but it was the broadbands feed there is no face plate in my loft!!
