Trying to hook up a new virgin router for a family member. They have a standard ADSL connection and some sort of Quamtex connection. I’ve never seen one of these before. Can I connect the router cable to this? If not, how can I hook up the router (what additional parts are needed)

Qamtex (sp?) is an old brand name of some of the cabling components used by VM and its predecessors.
The final connection in the home often ends in an isolator box like this (usually hidden in a VM plastic wall box cover so just the connector is visible)
Some have another connection as well for 'FM'.
You would use the TV/Data socket for the connection. The 'Quick Start' cables are push fit onto the connector, if this is what you have.
If in doubt, wait for your image to be approved. Forum VIPs can see images before moderation and may answer sooner.

Unscrew the bottom TV/Dats connector an push on the new cable from your VM hub.
