New landline, just static

I have just upgraded my package from broadband only to landline and tv also. When I plug the phone into the wall it's just static but my account says I am setup to go, no problems in my area or my connection. I'm not sure if there's anything I should be doing to start using the phone or if there is an issue with the line?

is the telephone like marked with virginmedia logo on it?, since if your using a hub 3 if you connect your phone to that does it work?

Thanks for the reply. It's a virgin phone line because virgin installed it the first time I got a phone line then I had an issue it never worked and I never got billed for it so I just forgot about it. And I'm not sure what hub I have but the phone won't fit in any of the connections?

If you have a hub 3.0 and were given an RJ11 to BT adapter your phone is provided by your hub.

however, the fact they have a virgin branded phone socket would suggest the phoneline is not provided by the hub.

It's an old socket. If area is now enabled for VoIP new landline customers with the hub 3.0 would get phone via the hub.

wouldn't that require an infrasctructure change at the cab also though?
are they providing VOIP to non project lightning customers?

That's already been done. Almost all new phone installs across Virgin Media are now via the Hub 3.

Initially VoIP from the hub 3.0 was available in FTTP areas, now it includes HFC areas. There are big advantages as the VM technician doesn't have to install a phone socket, jumper a wire in the cabinet, ensure connection in the mux, etc. It does also mean that an existing broadband customer who now subscribes to landline would get a free upgrade to the hub 3.0.

Thanks just looked in the box i got of virgin I think I have that adapter there is 4 ports which it would fit in when I plug it in the 1st port there is still static?
