Hi All,
I have just purchased a new property and I need to sign up for broadband.
The property has old NTL connections so I am considering signing top with Virgin Media, but both the external NTL box and the internal connection points are a bit of a mess.
The cover of the external point is loose and does not fit properly, and the cabling within appears to be too long to fit in the box properly.
The internal outlet appears to be a dated NTL box, and it seems that it requires a number of external wire splitters. Is this normal? I think modern Virgin media setups have any wire splitting done within the outlet don't they?
I've attached photos to show both of these.
Do Virgin Media fix/update these when customers join? Is there anything I can do to get these updated?
I want to sign up with Virgin Media, but I don't want my living room to be full of cables, and I don't like the damaged and dated box on the outside of the house.
Thanks

Since there was an existing connection they will offer you a 'self install' which means they send you the equipment to plug in to the existing cables.
If you insist on a manned install, a technician will come out with the equipment and you can discuss with them how you want it connected. They should be able to replace any faulty parts. Just be sure that they understand what you want.

Splitters are sometimes in the external omnibox if the TV and hub are in different locations. If they are together it’s normal as shown. You will probably not need the isolator in the middle picture as there should be one in the white wall box. If you have a maned install, you may want to put the hub in a central position in your home for best WiFi.

Hi Hoogie,
Thank you for your post 🙂
I am sorry for the state of disrepair the Omni box seems to be in, looks like it is a spider paradise, we can certainly clean this up and get a replacement cover fixed. With the wires inside your home, we can move them to where you would want, we do normally charge a £25.00 fee but as you moved here and this was not your preference we can look at waiving this if you do become a customer 🙂

Hi Zoie,
Thats great news, thank you.
Yes you wouldn’t believe the number of spiders that were in the OmniBox! 🙂
To confirm, how would the fee be waived?
Can I place a normal new customer order online? Can I select the free ‘self install’ option and then request the installer support separately?
Regarding the internal box and cabling. Do newer Virgin Media boxes have a lot of these splitters in the box so there are fewer external wires?
Thanks

Hi Hoogie,
If you're eligible for a self- install this option will become available to you online.
When your order has been placed you can let us know and we can arrange to send someone out to look at the outside box.
All our internal cabling would be the same.
