Hub 2 - Reliability and Problems Getting Worse

I’m having more and more problems with my Broadband & Hub 2, as the bill goes up the reliability is going down.

Is this due to the age of the Hub now that the Hub 3 is out?  I had major WiFi issues (DHCP related) with it last year which appear to have been better the last 3 months.  Now I lose internet connection completely weekly at some point usually during peak hours. (Like now for the last 2 hours).

Ive tried the keepup.virginmedia.com/hubswap URL however Virgin can’t find me in their system.  Which is funny as I manage to find their direct debit on my statement every month.

Anyone from VM want to send me a Hub 3? (Assuming they’re any better)  I’d assume it’s a simple box swap and I don’t need an engineer(?).

LOL that gave me a chuckle.

Wait for staff to pick it up, they MAY be able to organise a swap out for you. If not you'll need to phone in. Good news is it should be FOC.

In the meantime, been there, worn the T Shirt, setting static IP's usually resolves the issue. But we are so far on from SHUB2 id describe that as a workaround.

If not, your power levels may be out of spec, we can check those for you if you post em....

Re: Hub 2 - Reliability and Problems Getting Worse

Fingers Crossed.

To get the power levels I’m going to have to dig out my laptop & find a USB network adapter somewhere in the house to login.

Only one of these things I can guarantee to find quickly at 10:25pm on a Friday night.  The other will inspire some Indiana Jones-like escapades closely followed by a few scenes reminiscent of Faulty Towers.

At times like these when my internet is down I find a Xanax & Viagra cocktail are in order.  Go to bed happy and hope it’s up in the morning.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Hub 2 - Reliability and Problems Getting Worse

So after a few Hub restarts Broadband is back up, but DHCP is not renewing leases over wireless.  Devices with an address, on the reservations or with a static work fine.  Wired is fine.  This is only affected wireless devices.

I’ve had this a few times in the past, usually changing the wireless mode restarts the wireless settings and resolves it - not today though.

As a work around I’ve added the MAC addresses to the reservations list.

Virgin offered me a Hub 3 last year when I posted about the same problem - I probably should have taken them up in the offer.

Re: Hub 2 - Reliability and Problems Getting Worse

I found that my Shub2 would only work reliably with a limited quantity of devices. Did not want to turn any off so put the Shub into modem mode and purchased my own router. Problem solved. Have since been moved to a Hub3, but have always used that in modem mode so cannot say if it would be any better than the Shub2.
