I am due to receive a hub (router) and TV box through the post for a self install. I am a returning customer so the point where the service enters my property (there is a small box ready to plug cables into) is where I intend to place the hub so this won't be a problem. However, the TV and TV box will be on the other side of the room (approximately 8 metres from where the hub will be located. Does anyone know if the cables are likely to be long enough and if not, how do I request a longer one?
Thanks

Hi @jasonprf, thanks for your post although I'm sorry you've been given misleading information regarding the manned install.
I should absolutely be able to book this in for you, provided you can confirm some details that will enable me to get this booked in for you.
I'll pop you a quick PM asking you some questions, so please reply to this directly when you can!
Many thanks

You cannot request longer cables for self-install. If you want anything non-standard (more than 3 metres from the outlet), you have to opt for a manned install. The tech will then make up the specialised cable on site, & adjust the signal levels in the street cabinet to compensate for the longer cable run.

As above and get it done at this initial install stage, as it would cost £25 after an installation is complete.

I’ve just spoken to someone on the phone (at Virginmedia) who said there aren’t manual installs and I should purchase a longer cable from a hardware store if the provided cable isn’t long enough.
as my kit hasn’t yet arrived, what sort of cable do I need to connect the hub to the v6 tv box?

offshore was it - i would guess so as the advice is complete rubbish and against VM's T & C's - will flag the thread and hopefully the sensible side of VM can get something booked
