Fiber installation questions

We've had fiber to cabinet for years now but it's pretty pointless as the connection from there to my front door is made of candy floss.

As I type Virgin Media are digging up the pavements and installing fiber to each property so how do I access this, are VM just the contractor like BT Openreach, do I have to go with Virgin if I want FTTP? I need it ASAP but have no idea how to access it?
