no you don't need to do anything other than connect the cable.

the link says "Plug one end of the yellow or black Ethernet cable into the ETHERNET port at the back of your Sky box.

Plug the other end of the cable into one of the available ports at the back of your router.

Your Sky box should then automatically connect to your broadband."

also, no idea where you are seeing that, as none of the steps on that page tell you to do that.

 well i'm not, as the link says, connect the ethernet cable and that's all you do.

When you connect with the Ethernet cable it should take priority over WiFi, so it's simply a case of plug and play.

Rebooted the Sky box and the Virgin hub.

All is working now.
