Changing modem cable

I have a 3.0 hub with a very long cable because the computer has been in another room.

As we are decorating, I want to have the modem much closer to the box permanently.  This would also be useful when eg a new floor is being laid.

Can I change the cable myself?  If so, what cable and connectors do I need? Is there a ready made cable?  1-2 m would be ideal.

I'm not sure if the Technetix is an attenuator and shoukld remain, ie the cable screws into it and should be left in.

Shortening the cable will further increase your signal levels, which the attenuator is already in place to counteract. VM use specialised cable as the RF spectrum VM use is shared with terrestrial broadcast & mobile phone services & these must not enter the network. VM techs can also adjust levels in the cabinet if required when they change cabling.

The non fault call out fee to do the job with the correct spec cable etc is £25.

VM 350BB 2xV6 & Landline. Freeview/Freesat HD, ASDA/Tesco PAYG Mobile. Cable customer since 1993

You cannot use your own cables - need a VM Tech to do this. They have the correct cables, connectoirs and fittings and will also rebalance all the signal levels after its done.

VM charge £25 for that - good value.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

And £25 extra on the cost of decorating is nothing really plus you’ll have the peace of mind of knowing that should anything go wrong in the future, they’ll be no argument as to who is responsible.

Thanks for prompt and juseful reply.

Thanks for quick and helpful reply.

Thanks!

I assume that I can disconnect the cable from the box, so that I can get the modem with attached cable out of the way.

Is it just a spanner job?

Yes it it, really it shouldn’t be tight enough that you need a spanner - but whatever!

Thanks again!
