Broadband Problems

Hi,

Hope this is the right board, I'm not techie but hopefully someone who is may have suggestions.

I've been having intermittent problems opening web pages for a few weeks. Sometimes I get message "waiting for response from...". Sometimes the page I want appears in the address bar but my screen still displays the page I want to leave. Sometimes just a blank page.

At first I thought it might be ebay because I use that a lot but I'm getting it everywhere.

I don't think it's my pc because I have the same problem with my I-pad.

Sometimes turning the modem on and off helps for a while.

Some days it works fine with no problems but not often.

I tried phoning the helpline and the automated message said a check was being run which would take a few seconds. Then it said it was taking longer than expected and wait a few seconds more but then the call was dropped.

I've checked service status for my area and it says there are no known issues.

I ran the service check tool on Virgin which crashed the first time but second time said there was no issue with my connection.

What do you think I should do next.....arrange a visit from an engineer?

Re: Broadband Problems

log into hub3 - 192.168.0.1 [or 192.168.100.1 if in modem mode] - DON'T SIGN IN, click - click router status [centre of screen] - and post the downstream and upstream figures - to see those press on the grey buttons/boxes labeled - upstream - downstream

if its an earlier hub button is top right

Re: Broadband Problems

Hi Tony,

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly.

You say "don't sign in" but it won't let me past the Welcome page unless I do.

Re: Broadband Problems

OK so I've entered password and am into the hub but the hub status is just a display and can't be clicked on.

I've clicked in some of the advanced settings but can't see anywhere that I can see upstream and downstream figures and I'm nervous of making unwanted changes.

What I see is this:

Re: Broadband Problems

ok its a hub3

log into hub3 - 192.168.0.1 [or 192.168.100.1 if in modem mode] - DON'T SIGN IN, click - click router status [centre of screen] - and post the downstream and upstream figures - to see those press on the grey buttons/boxes labeled - upstream - downstream

so another way - once you get to first screen you see a white box with an area to enter password - below and outside that white box it says

> Check router status

its not obvious but thats a button click on it and follow instructions above about downstream and upstream levels you will see

Re: Broadband Problems

All those stats are very good.

There are 10 types of people: those who understand binary and those who don't and F people out of 10 who do not understand hexadecimal

Re: Broadband Problems

Hi Tudor,

Well, thanks for checking the stats but actually wish they had showed up a problem because something's wrong. I've been trying for a couple of days on and off to tax my car on the DVLA website. Eventually got through to the payment screen when it froze again. Then I didn't know whether my payment had gone through or not until an email arrived. I've just had three attempts to run a Google search and that's usually the easiest thing to do.

I rang 150 but the call centre guy in India ran a test and said there's no problem.

So I have no idea where to go from here.
