Hi,
I've recently moved into a new property and was wondering if it is possible to get a site survey done ahead of installation? Although the availability checker confirms Virgin is available at my property I know that there have been significant changes to the property in the last few years. I'm currently with BT but they have been unable to complete my connection since I moved so I'm considering switching - but don't want to encounter the same issues/delays if I do.
Thanks for any advice

The only thing I can say is there is no guarantee you won't have issues with VM either, even if you do have a survey.
Pre-install surveys only look at where the cable will be routed inside & out. It does not look at your service tee, or the underground ducting between it & the street cabinet. If you sign up & the cable pre-pull contractor then finds a blockage, your install will be delayed by days if not weeks due to further contractor involvement to dig up said ducting to rectify.
The vast majority of installs do go without a hitch, but as I say, no guarantees.

I'd say place an order for VM, don't cancel the BT order, and see who gets installed first.
You've then got a 14 day cooling off period to cancel either service and owe nothing. If both install within a couple of days you can run them together and compare performance over a few days. The one thing you should not do is cancel the BT order, because delays of months on new VM installations are frequent complaints in this forum, and potentially you could cancel the BT order that might be completed in a couple of weeks, and then find the VM date keeps moving backwards for two and half months. This thread will help set expectations, but a search of the forum on "delayed" will produce a wealth of similar anguish (the award holder for most delayed new VM installation was thirteen and a half months).
