Base flashing green - Different wall socket?

Got my quick start kit today only to find that my Virgin media wall box doesn't have one outlet. It is just a housing for a black cable coming in directly from outside, with two coaxial heads. Can I use these cables and plug directly into my hub and TV box? Or do I need to ring a technician?

I think they were used for Virgin media previously but not sure as all the diagrams show a Virgin media wall box with only one outlet.

Re: Base flashing green - Different wall socket?

Hi Gareth,

No unfortunately not as I've been away for the weekend. It's stil flashing green whilst connected using one of the heads of the black cable from the wall.

Thanks for replying Kezla241

Can you please if possible take a picture of the connections

This way we can see if it needs an engineer to come out

It does sound like we will need to

Re: Base flashing green - Different wall socket?

Thank you for replying Gareth

I know we had virgin here before. I've attached two photos, one of the cable coming in through the Virgin wall socket, and one of the end of that cable. Hope to be up and running soon!

Re: Base flashing green - Different wall socket?

Thanks for those pictures Kezla241

I do think its best that we get an engineer out to connect you up

It is quite tricky to see what cable is ours as we only use white coax as standard

I will send you a private message to gain account access

not all the time - some [early] installs use black cable stripped from the twin that feeds down the duct - i know this as mine was like that for a while - that was 20 years ago and has since changed

what VM should have spotted it that is not even their cable - 2 cables same dia is sky shotgun cable - whoever was there before you had sky and their lazy tech took the VM box off the wall removed the cable and used the hole to feed his cable

i assume he cut the cable - you can follow that cable back to the other side of the wall and look for a grey or brown box on the wall thats the VM input - if that exists and there is a cable going into it from the ground then a tech can sort it - if not its a bigger job
