We are aware some customers are unable to opt out of the Advanced Network Error Search (ANES) using the online option.
We are currently working to resolve this issue but in the meantime you can either contact Web Chat or call the our technical support team on 150 from a Virgin landline or alternatively 0345 454 1111.
If you'd prefer us to get this done for you please pop a post on this thread and one of the mod team will contact you as soon as we can.
This issue should now be resolved.
Please opt out using your home connection on this website https://my.virginmedia.com/advancederrorsearch/ and if you have any problems please let us know.

It's not something you have to log in for. There's a link on the ANES page
https://my.virginmedia.com/advancederrorsearch/
However it's tied to your VM IP so you can only change it from your home connection.

The link doesn't work :-
We are sorry but we have not been able to switch off this service. This may be due to a temporary problem with our system, or it may be because you have disconnected from your home broadband connection. Please connect to the internet via your home broadband connection, or try again later.

Link works fine
Advanced Network Error Search Our advanced network error search helps you find the website you're looking for quickly. We all make mistakes when we type in website addresses. Perhaps we miss a few letters, or the website doesn't exist any longer. If an address you enter doesn't locate a site, this handy feature will convert the incorrect address into a web search, so instead of an error message you will get a list of our closest matches, plus some additional related links. The advanced network error search is currently switched OFF. To change your selection, use the buttons below: Yes - I would like to use the advanced network error search No - I would not like to use the advanced network error search

link takes me to the page you've posted - mine shows as on and when I select NO it gives the error message

Unsurprisingly the link that allows you to 'opt-out' of this useless service acts just like a spammer unsubscribe link and doesn't actually change the setting. When I go to the link and select that I don't want this rubbish, the message says it is already turned off... yet I still get the advanced search results, even when I am on my work VPN looking for a work based URL.
So how do I 'really' get this rubbish turned off on my account?

I opted out just by not using VM's DNS service 😛
ISP DNS is normally pretty terrible to begin with

Hi there
I am experiencing this issue and I cannot turn ANES off as there is no online option.
The message includes the following
You can switch off this service, but you need to be connected to the internet via your home Virgin Media broadband connection. We cannot recognise this connection right now, or there may be a problem with our system. Please connect to the internet via your home broadband connection, or try again later.
I have revisited the page weeks apart. I also called your technical support hotline who told me to 'clear all my cookies', which did not work.
Please help!

Hi chaps - my ANES opt out is not working. I got a new router from you yesterday, and I am now seeing DNS hijacking, but follow the link the the ANES page, says I'm opted out - I set it again, and it says it's done..but:
stuartsmith$ nslookup sdfsdfasfsf
Server: 194.168.4.100
Address: 194.168.4.100#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: sdfsdfasfsf
Address: 92.242.132.24
still hijacking DNS to barefruit:
nslookup 92.242.132.24
Server: 194.168.8.100
Address: 194.168.8.100#53
Non-authoritative answer:
24.132.242.92.in-addr.arpa name = unallocated.barefruit.co.uk
And in firefox, still getting the virgin search for http://sdfsdfasfsf

It's not solved for me and is really winding me up - why on earth would anybody ever want the 'feature'? I feel genuinely sorry for the guys who were made to implement it, they must have realised how pointless and hated it'd be.
I can't even load a load html page without 'advanced search' deciding that it couldn't be found and hijacking my browser... just stop it. I'd like to have this fixed and for everybody's sake, perhaps you could launch this un-feature in to the heart of the sun?
