BBC to show 29 live matches in 4K Ultra HD

You’ve waited 4 years for the World Cup to come around. And now you can watch all the action in more colour than ever before.

The BBC will be making available the 29 live matches shown on BBC One in 4K Ultra HD during the World Cup.

For the first time, as well as 4K resolution, the BBC service will be provided in Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) which enables High Dynamic Range (HDR) providing brighter whites and darker blacks and Wide Colour Gamut (WCG) serving up a wider range of colours than standard broadcast TV.

To watch the 4K content, you’ll need to be using a Virgin TV V6 box with the latest firmware, connected to a TV supporting both 4K resolution and WCG (this may also be known as BT.2020 or REC.2020). Access will be through the BBC iPlayer on the V6.

Due to the nature of the content, we recommend connecting your V6 box to your Virgin Media hub via Ethernet, you’ll need to ensure a minimum connection speed of 40Mbps to take full advantage of the full 3840 pixel Ultra HD profile.

To make sure that this goes smoothly, the BBC will be making this content available on a first come, first served basis. If you don't see the stream as available, then you'll be offered a stream of the next highest quality.

If you’d like to check you’re set up and ready to receive the BBC’s 4K content during the World Cup, go to the BBC iPlayer app on your V6 box, where you should see this screen. If you can see it, you're good to go!
