hub 3 overheat

Hi i have a hub 3 that is showing red on power light the moden is in free air no other equipment by it.  It has been ok until last 4-5 days.   i have done power on/off  factory reset.  It will drop internet connection both wired and wifi.  power on/off will eventily get back on line.  It is getting worse.  Unit is not particularly hot.   By adding an ethernet switch the wired connections seem to work better?

Does it require an enginner?  Surley just plug in and run.
