YouTube buffering and unwatchable on all devices

Hello,

I upgraded my Virgin Media services about six weeks ago to have M350 Fibre Broadband. Since installing the new router YouTube videos are painfully slow to load up on my desktop computer, and barely load at all on my laptop, iPad and on the children's Amazon Fire tablets. One of my children has been off school and having to watch YouTube videos of her virtual lessons while in quarantine. The slow speed is affecting her ability to learn and I need to watch YouTube videos for my job as a journalist. There was never this problem with the older router. The speed of the internet is fine (over 100Mbps when I checked it at around 3pm this afternoon) and I'm happy with web pages loading up for other online tasks that I have to do involving my work. Is there a setting I need to change to stop the YouTube buffering issue? I have tried countless times to get assistance but have been unable to contact anyone at Virgin. Thanks

Does it load any quicker on a wired connection?

No. I tried on the ethernet cable but the problem was the same.

What speeds do you get at >> speedtest.net << with a direct connection using a Cat 5E or better cable between the Hub in Router Mode and a 1Gbs capable Pc/Mac/Chromebook and no other devices connected ?

Re: YouTube buffering and unwatchable on all devices

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a 'Live Link' to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: YouTube buffering and unwatchable on all devices

Can you please

Type 192.168.0.1 (192.168.100.1 in Modem mode) into your browser URL bar and press enter.

Hub 2 & 3 When the page appears DO NOT LOG IN but click ‘Check Router Status’.

Hub 4 When the page appears LOG IN then click ‘Check Router Status’.

Copy and paste the contents of the Downstream, Upstream, Configuration and Network Log tabs onto here, if you get a yellow / straw box warning click the Post button again. Use one post for each tab if you wish.

Please do not use screen grabs.

A Guru will be along soon to decipher the info.

Re: YouTube buffering and unwatchable on all devices

There's another post on the forum about very similar issues - and a litany of similar complaints stretching back years (though not all that recent).  Suspect that, like the other issues, this is probably a problem with the way VM caches and serves youtube videos..

you could try adjusting your youtube settings to force different quality settings (it's possible that different resolutions (1080p, 720p etc..) are streamed from different servers) you may find that changing the default works for you..

Re: YouTube buffering and unwatchable on all devices

Thanks. I'll give that a go and see if there's any improvement.
