WiFi connections in two bedroom house

Tuning in

Hi,

On the 17th of this month I became a happy user of VM 200M broadband. Equipped with Hub 3 and expecting miracles. When everything was connected and brought to live, everything seemed ok, but after a couple of days the speeds and range all over the house drastically /in my opinion/ went down. My Hub 3 router is placed on the top of the wardrobe in the sitting room, where Tv Box is located as well. My PC is on the first floor, no more than 4 meters from the hub, but there is of course ceiling on the way. My speed on a very good PC is now around 80Mgbits. In the small room next to the bedroom where PC is the speed is no more than 30Mgbits, but in the loo just after small room 0. Same thing in the kitchen which is no more than 5 meters from HUB 3. Nothing outside! Time to react! Bought TP Link AX23 - no improvement, bought Wavlink tri band AC3000 with three nodes, speed at PC back to normal around 208 Mgbits, but unfortunately one of the nodes was broken down and I had to send it back to Amazon. Any idea of what can improve range and speed? I have read many reviews of an equipment that I could potentially buy, but after two days research, I just got headache and I am completely lost. Some says buy AX, some say buy AC but with 3 band and some say - just single router will be ok. But my friendship with router ended after a day sending it back to Amazon. Any suggestions? I want to get what I am paying for.

Cant comment really - its just that Tenda has a reputation on here as being a "budget" range of kit - with all that implies regarding quality, features, usability, longevity, etc.

Need a few users to comment

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Bought the Linksys as suggested. My local EVRI shop personnel is tired accepting parcels which I return to Amazon. Will see tomorrow how it performs. I will give you post how everything goes.

Set it up as per this generic protocol - its the sequence that matters.

Switch on and set up your own router/first Mesh unit (in its settings) with the WAN port set to be in Automatic IP i.e. DHCP (& Nat) mode, it may be pre-set that way anyway. Then, disconnect all cables from your new router (or Mesh first unit) and switch it off and unplug it.

Then, put the VM Hub into modem mode
and wait a few minutes.

Once it’s in modem mode, the VM hub “MUST” then be powered off.

Switch your router/first Mesh on and make sure it’s fully initialised (leave 5 min) and then put in the ethernet cable from its WAN port to the VM hub (any port will do).

NOW… power up the VM hub and wait 5-10 minutes for The Hub to initialise and and you should get a connection. Use the recommended App to connect any other Mesh units to the first one.

This order only needs to be done the first time you connect the router to the VM hub. You might also set the SSID and key/password on the new router/Mesh to match that on the HUB so when you swap over, all your wireless devices should just connect automatically.

You do not work for VM, but I can say that you are my guru and your "prescription" for connecting other router to VM should be presented on the first site of the forum. Finally I bought Lynksys AC 6600 /3x2200/ and I am very happy with the speeds and range. So I've got one node on the wardrobe in sitting room, one in my main bedroom, and one in small bedroom. Speeds are: sitting room 212Mbit, main bedroom 212 Mbit, small bedroom 185Mbit, loo 155Mbit😄, garden 109Mbit, garage 20 meters away 85Mbit. Very stable! Sweet filling! We will see what future will show, but for now I am happy. My VM is 200M.

Cheers.
