I was told I’d need more pods. Was put through to a chap who said he’d order for me. And that was that, heard nothing since. Had an online chat with O2 who said it’s down to virgin.

If you already have one pod then have you tried by logging into /my-virgin-media , as per the info below from https://www.virginmedia.com/wifi-max ?
You need to use the Connect app to perform the Home Scan in the area where the signal is low(est)
