Web Safe turned off but still blocking sites

Tuning in

According to this page (https://www.virginmedia.com/my-virgin-media/account-settings/security), all the web safe stuff is turned of. However, when I try to visit, for example, https://www.torproject.org/, I get the following message:

"Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to www.torproject.org. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

Error code: PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem."

I think this is a duplicate of this post: https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Virgin-Mobile/Web-Safe-turned-off-but-still-blocking-websites/m...

thanks,

patrick

Bypass Child Safe

Restarting the Hub will not help as it is the VM DNS and not the Hub that is causing the problem.

If you changed the computer's network settings to use any Public DNS does that re-gain access.

Try with OpenDNS using 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

I am picking this one as there are instructions here : https://use.opendns.com/

For Google Public DNS is would be the same method but  8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Hi. I can confirm that changing the DNS settings to those described here https://use.opendns.com/ solved the problem. Thank you. However, I don't understand why this should be necessary.

But solved the problem for only 1 device.

For some customers the Web Safe adjustments are not functioning.

Either the customer can't move the sliders or they can but without effect.

Our Web Safe settings are :
++ Virus Safe - Enabled
++ Child Safe - Disabled

I dare not revisit that page as what we have works for us.

If you express your Web Safe preference a VM Team member will pick this up and attempt to correct the situation on the back end systems.

Ok thanks. For a VM team member: my current settings are displayed like this:

++ Virus Safe - Disabled
++ Child Safe - Disabled

This is how I want them to be, but I think it's not working. I think they are both actually enabled, just showing disabled.

thanks
