Volt 1GB new HUB 5 - High latency and packet loss

Good day,

I've had Virgin 1GB with a HUB 4 in modem mode connected to my Asus router for over a year now, but have never seen anywhere near 1GB downloads on LAN or WiFi.  The best I have seen is 600MB down when cabled and I average 200MB to 300MB on WiFi.  Because I had a stable connection and technically 600GB when cabled is within the legal requirement of service delivery - that plus my BQM with the HUB 4 not being too bad, I wasn't to fussed.

Last week I thought I'd try my luck and request a HUB5 thinking maybe with the 2.5GB port connected to my Asus router that I might see things improve and finally start seeing real improvements whether connected to WiFi or LAN (even if slight - I would have been happy).   Problem is with the HUB 5 connected, latency is terrible and I struggle to stream videos / watch Youtube, etc.  Looking at my BQM, I was horrified to see the state of the connection each day.

I literally unscrewed the cable from the HUB4 and screwed it into the HUB5 so wasn't expecting this.  I've already tried to pinhole reset the HUB5, checked all connections are tight, etc so not sure where to go from here and hope that someone from VM can contact me to advise

Thanks for coming back to us. The Forums isn't an instant response tool. 

I have checked the levels today and everything is as it should be. There was an SNR issue with 1 of the upstreams the other day but all those levels are now back within spec. No other area issues as well. 

I do hope everything therefore has been fixed, do keep us posted should you need further assistance.

Hi cgag, 

Thanks for taking the time to post about your issues in the Community.

We're sorry to see that since upgrading to the Hub 5 you are having an issue with latency. As you're using third party equipment, we would need to take this out of the equation in order to run full checks. 

Please unplug your router and reboot the hub in normal mode. Post back here to let us know and then leave the setup as is so we can run through the checks we need to. 

For now, I have checked the area and there is nothing affecting you there. I've also checked the power and signal levels on the hub and they are all within optimal range. 

Please let us know once you've removed your router so we can investigate further.

Hi, 

I've gone through the day with the Hub 5 being the router and still see higher than expected latency in my BQM which rather annoyingly caused issues  during Teams meetings today.  Although the BQM looks cleaner (far less packet loss which is great) I still think the latency isn't right.

There are still many Pre RS errors, only 1 Post RS error on the download stats and some T3 Time-outs in the upload router stats.

How are the tests coming along and can you please let me know next steps.

Hi,

The hub rebooted itself this morning at 02:30 of its own accord.  Although today I didn’t experience issues today during Teams calls, I still feel that the latency is not right.  Why such high latency when the there is no internet traffic and why are the latency spikes so high throughout the day?  I’ve also never seen latency spikes in the BQM like I do with this hub before.

Ive done what Kath_f has asked but have not received any further response so Im at a loss on where to go next.   Surely that BQM isn’t right?

I still have the Hub 4 at home.  Should I just use it instead of the Hub 5 and send the Hub 5 back to Virgin?
