Virgin Media 3.0 and access to github

Hi,

I recently switched over to Virgin Media from Sky. Since then I haven't been able to run ssh commands to github when on my home wifi. Specifically, I'm trying to `git pull <address>` where <address> is something like git@github.com:tensorflow/tensorflow.git.

I've tried the same command when tethering via my phone and it works fine (not a long-term fix).

I've also tried disabling WebSafe and VirusSafe (and just adding github.com to the websites filer) with no joy.

I've read this and other posts which suggest it's related to Virgin handling the DNS, but I've also read things which state that I can't reconfigure DNS on a Hub 3.0. It also feels like I probably shouldn't have to - Github is hardly an Internet backwater.

Any help much appreciated.

to test if it is a DNS issue, you can temporarily change the DNS servers on your laptop/pc to point to somewhere else (Google DNS or OpenDNS or whatever you choose).

Re: Virgin Media 3.0 and access to github

Good suggestion, thanks. I changed it to google but still no luck. I still get...

Cloning into 'test-repo'...
ssh: connect to host github.com port 22: Operation timed out
fatal: Could not read from remote repository.

Please make sure you have the correct access rights
and the repository exists.

Any other ideas?

Re: Virgin Media 3.0 and access to github

it's not a DNS issue then.
could github have blacklisted IP addresses from Virgin?

have you tried pingin the host to see if you get a response?
or a tracert?

Yeah, ping works fine, as does just browsing to github.com.

Traceroute shows the following:

15:22 ~$> traceroute github.com
traceroute: Warning: github.com has multiple addresses; using 140.82.118.3

So it looks like it's getting there OK.
