Various websites eg BBC block some content because they think I'm outside the UK. I'm not. Why? And what can be done?

Are you using a VPN on your device?

Hi JilM,
Thanks for taking the time to post about your issues in the Community. ⭐
We're sorry to hear you're having trouble accessing some content due to the error that you're outside of the UK.
As mentioned by goslow, are you using a VPN or have you ever used a VPN on your device?
Is this happening when trying to access the content across all devices or is it only happening on one?
Pop back and let us know so we can help further.
Thanks,

I'm not using a VPN as far as I know. No problem on other devices

What is the device that is having the problem (if others on your network are working OK)?
Did you use the link from Client62 at #3 to check your IP address/location using the problem device?
Where did that report your location to be?
(Don't post your IP address on the public forum though)

Yes I used the link to whatsmyipaddress. Showing location as England - but that changes regularly.

I don't know enough (=anything) about the Mac OS to say if there is anything native to the Mac which might be causing your problems. If your location keeps changing though on whatismyip, and it is only happening on the Mac, that sounds like something a VPN would produce.
Have you installed any security software on the Mac since you bought it?

Yes. Could that do it do you think?

Quite possibly if it has a VPN bundled in with it. What have you installed?
