Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Hello,

I'm on a wired connection, and I have the VIV 350 package that advertises 21MBPS upload.
I stream daily on twitch.tv. Each day at least once a stream my upload speed drops to 2-3mbps at most, for anything between 5m to an hour. The rest of the time it works perfectly. Speed tests show anything from 2mbps to 8mbps upload during these times, but when this is happening my speeds are all over the place.
Some observations: Certain times seem worse. Recently it's been around 5:30pm that I've had this problem. About a month ago it was around 7pm. This could simply having something to do with the amount of time I've been streaming. I upload at around 6mbps. I also understand that certain times have more users and thus I should expect slower speeds, but in my case is goes from 100% to barely usable, and then is fine again.
Does virgin media still throttle customers based on how much they're uploading? I've talked to customer support three times and all they've told me is that everything is fine on their end and that they don't guarantee a certain upload speed. While I understand that, I think this is a completely separate issue since it's so bad for a short amount of time and perfect the rest of the time.

Any help would be appreciated. I've attached an image of my broadcast uploads showing the issue.

Dan

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Good to know it's not that at least. Definitely feels like I'm being throttled but if they don't do that anymore I still have no idea what's causing my problems.

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Check all your coax connections are in nice and "finger" tight at the Hub and wall box and at any splitters/attenuators/etc and that the internal wiring is ok with no kinking or chaffing (rabbit chews!).  Also check that all looks good with the outside cabling and wall box.

If that’s all good.... post up your Hub/network connection details and someone will check to see if there is a problem there.  In your browser’s URL box type in  http://192.168.0.1  (or http://192.168.100.1 - if in modem mode) and hit return.   On the page [there should be no need to login] click on the “router status” text at bottom middle of first page up and then copy/paste 3 sets of data onto here - the downstream, upstream, &  network logs.  Don't worry about the formatting it can be easily read, but try to avoid using screen shots & don’t include personal data or mac addresses - blank them out.

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Hey, I tightened everything as best as I could. Here's the data hopefully it's readable. The problem persists despite the tightening.
I think I've hidden all sensitive information. All help is greatly appreciated this problem is seriously hindering my use of our internet. Thank you once again.
The downstream/upstream data i've copied and pasted,
Dan

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Others more qualified should comment, but power levels & SNR are in spec but there are a lot of postRS errors - these could be cumulative over a long period. So switch the Hub off of for 5 minutes and reboot it and then after 24 hours recheck and repost that data.

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Hello,

First of all thanks for your extremely quick reply.

I actually rebooted my hub two days ago and I had the issue shortly after, yesterday and today. It's not permanently like this though, only about 10-30% of the time. I could likely check my router status when it's working perfectly and post excellent results, I'm just trying to figure out why this randomly happens for 10m to an hour at least once a day.

Thanks

Re: Upload Speed Drops At Certain Times

Hi Dan95,

Looking at the stats you've posted for the most part everything looks fine. I have tried to check things from this side but was unable to locate your account to investigate further.

I've just sent you a private message requesting some information so I can check further.
