Setting up router as wifi extender with Steve

Hey everyone,

I'm getting shaky signal downstairs from my "Steve" modem and was hoping to use an old router as a wifi extender instead of spending the money on buying one.

Does anyone know if it will work with the Steve modem?

Right now, I've connected the router to the modem but I'm unable to access the device info via 192.168.1.1

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Setting up router as wifi extender with Steve

I doubt we can offer much detailed advice since you're clearly Virgin Canada, and this a UK forum for Virgin Media, which uses different technology.

It certainly is often possible to reconfigure old ISP devices as access points, but based on my experience I'd say that it is often a false economy.  I have tried it with two different ISP devices one worked erratically with poor wifi, the other was more stable with poor wifi.  Much better to bite the bullet and buy a mesh wifi system in my view.
