Re: Rubbish Speed!!! How many upload channels should I have

Dreadful

Should be 4 Up channels the one you have is at max power and struggling. Try this and see if they return.

Do a Hub “pinhole reset” - make sure the 2 passwords on the Hub sticker are still there and legible first ! Disconnect any ethernet cables from the Hub (leave the coax connected), and then with the Hub still "switched on" throughout, press pin in firmly with paper clip/SIM tray tool or similar "thin thing" and hold it firmly for at least 60 seconds, release the pin, leave for 5’ to stabilise - dont manually switch it off at any time. See if that sorts it. Note the passwords for all your devices connecting on wifi will revert to that on the sticker - you will have to login to the Hub to change it back to what you have

Should have added...

If you haven’t already, set up a free and secure “Broadband Quality Monitor” to continually monitor the state of your connection and record any true network dropouts , latency issues, packet drops, Overutilisation issues, etc - it will thus allow you to differentiate between those and simple wifi dropouts. It does it 24/7/365 and it keeps a visual record of any/all of your network disconnections, useful data to have to match to the Network logs (in your Hub settings) and also in discussions with VM - note it will take a few hours to start seeing a sensible picture - post up the “link” to the “share live graph” (as per instructions on the TB website) when it starts to develop.

Re: Rubbish Speed!!! How many upload channels should I have

Hi John,

Firstly, ive reset my hum using the pinhole method you described, and it had factory reset everything.

I was using my hub in modem only mode and a netgear nighthawk router. this used to be great but of late, its shocking.

My hub went into router mode so i thought id have a play with it under different scenarios.

my iphone xr started receiving speeds of 450+/18, yet my laptop plugged via ethernet was about 200/18.

a few more tests and basicially I have removed the netgear router all together and left my hub in router mode.

I have a mancave at the bottom of the garden connected via ethernet, and the pc is now getting 500+/17, so much faster... Still the upload issue though and I still have only 1 upstream bonded channel.

Looks like I will have to call.

Thanks for your help

Re: Rubbish Speed!!! How many upload channels should I have

You need a technician’s visit to correct, that one upstream channel is way too high power level. Call customer services or wait a few days for a VM staff member to get to your post.

One thing you can do in the meantime is to check if you have an attenuator in the circuit, it’s a small component marked with a dB value like 6dB. If you have a normal attenuator not a forward path attenuator it will reduce the downstream signal level, but cause an increase in the upstream power level. A forward path attenuator will only affect the downstream power level.

Called VM and they coming out tomorrow apparently, so will see what they say.

Thanks for the advice.

curiosity, should I have a forward path attenuator then? not had chance to check yet

Re: Rubbish Speed!!! How many upload channels should I have

VM came out this am. Replaced the "SuperHub", reduced a splitter outside from 5 down to 2 seeing as I am using less tv boxes now, and all is now working well, I have 4 upload channels too.

Thanks all for your help
