Routing

Hi,

I was just wondering whenever I trace router any ip, how come I go through north core (nrth-core-2b-xe-002-0.network.virginmedia.net) I live in the east of england (Colchester) therefore I'm nowhere near the north, but closer to London.

Re: Routing

You don't. nrth = Northampton.

There are enough of us in the north with electricity, etc, that VM cant put us all on a single 'core' so can't have a 'north' core Smiley Happy

Re: Routing

The way ‘core’ routers work you could in fact go almost anywhere! Although this is not generally the case and you stick to the same route.

Re: Routing

The actual ones on the VM network with core in their name are fixed, customers always go through the same site and have to Smiley Happy

There's another level of router on the VM network that can't be seen in most traceroutes, backbone routers, those are the actual supercore, the ones called cores are local aggregation routers.

Not at all confusing.

Re: Routing

Nearly as complicated as VM's reason they haven't fixed the puma 6 issue.

Re: Routing

Oh that's easy. It's not in their power to fix it, even if it were they can't fix it and, apparently, neither can Intel.
