Router not connecting in.modem mode

Hi there. Last night I put a post on about poor wifi around the house.

Someone very kindly said to use our own router: they put the following info, when I asked how we did this.

you have to use the hub in modem mode but you can use your own router with it. Much better wireless on a good router.

We have a new router tp link 300 and we cannot get it to connect the virgin hub 3. Can anyone offer any advice before my husband goes mad.

Thanks

Re: Router not connecting in.modem mode

My virgin hub is showing a Red light instead of purple. Not sure what the issue is 🤔

Re: Router not connecting in.modem mode

When the VM hub is in Modem Mode I have notice the  REd Light is always on. I think thats because WiFi is disabled within the hub.

You will require an ethernet cable between the hub port 4 and the external modem. The external modem should be set to DHCP on the wan. The VM hub will only issue one IP address in Modem mode. The Modem is 192,168.100.1 and the external router will recieve an IP address of 192.168.100.x where x = between 2 and 254.  I have noticed occasionally you may have to reset the VM hub (power off / power on) for it to issue a DHCP address to the router.

When the VM hub is in Modem mode ther Firewall is DISABLED so your router MUST have good protection methods. A minimum of a firewall wnabled is required.

I run in Modem Mode with a 3rd Party Router as a wifi access point.... This works for my requirements

Regards

KK

Re: Router not connecting in.modem mode

Isn't this an extender rather than a router, and it doesn't have a DHCP server either, so the hub must be in router mode.

Re: Router not connecting in.modem mode

tp link 300 doesn't seem to be a model number for any TP-Link devices. What is the modem number of the device you got
