Reolink Camera not working on VM

Hello All.

I have a couple of Reolink cameras I have been given for test. When they were being used on a differnent connection they were viewable by the cloud app. Testing them on a VM connection they constanty disconnect from the app.

I've tried direct ethernet into the modem and via wireless.

I have also tried a EE 4G hotspot connecting them wirelessly and they are stable. its something odd with the VM internet connection.

VM : Can you offer any suggestions please.

I have even directly connected the camera with the VM box in modem mode which should be as clean and unfiltered connection as possible and the problem remains.

its definitly something on your side of the network blocking this.

It’s leaving the VM network and also reaching the end destination.

There’s no issue with regards routing etc.

How many devices have you got plugged into the Hub in Modem Mode ?

Disable Smart Optimisation in HUB3 or if HUB4 uncheck Auto and check manual for channels 

If I do not do this I randomly loose some of my smaller/smart devices like Camera/Hamony Hub.

I've connected one device directly to the hub in modem mode and it doesnt work.

If I use a 4G modem which we use at work when people are on site without a wired connection, it is a basic device with one ethernet, no wifi and designed to provide wired ethernet. it works fine with that. I took the camera next door and plugged it into their BT router and it came straigt up. I also setup a hotspot on my EE phone, connected that via USB to the laptop and then shared the connection to the ethernet port and plugged in the camera - very conveluted but it worked !. How does VM explain it works with other ISP's and not with them?

When its on the VM network something is happening enroute to prevent it working.

Somone else mentioned its not VM becuase the routing is working. Just becuase a route exists, it doesnt mean that the protocol that the cameras are using which I believe is RTSP is being passed across the VM network. traceroute uses ICMP packets which are entirely different. I already know that VM optomise their network for speedtest.net so the results look favourable. There could be all sorts of dark magic taking please.

Put the hub into modem mode and use your own router then

Hello.

I did say int he original post that I had tried the hub in modem mode with it directly connected and it made no differrence.

At the moment to make it work, I have a raspberry pi running a VPN to NordVPN and the camera connected to that, so in effect the traffic reaching the reolink servers is coming from outside the VM network.

Its very clearly a problem on the VM network, talking to network consultant he said that VM maybe doing packet inspection which is altering the sequence of packets which causes reolink servers to reject the incoming stream becuase its out of sequence. He's seen this sort of thing before whilst working in broadcast and using the public internet to move streams about. He said if you manage to convince VM that the problem exists its highly unlikely they will have any idea of how to resolve it. It was him that suggested the raspberry pi soltuion which is working a treat.
