Nintendo Switch DNS resolution at Hub 4.0

Kmp
Tuning in

I recently moved to current property and got virgin media Hub 4.0. Although all of other devices could have wifi connection, only my daughter’s Nintendo switch could not connect, though it could be connected to other networks (such as wifi at previous places and mobile network via smartphone).

I have tried all of the suggested options at virgin community and other websites, and contacted gadget rescue team, but all didn’t work at all.

The things I and gadget rescue team have tried are
- dns manual set (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 and 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1))
- restart switch and Hub
- turn on flight mode then turn it off
- changing security from WPA2 to WPA then back it
- splitting wifi into 2.4ghz and 5ghz then connect to 2.4
- setting up guest wifi and connect to it
- removing MAC filtering
- disconnect other devices from wifi
- updating Switch via mobile network

I spent more than 10 hours and my daughter keeps blaming… if someone could help, it will be really appreciated!

Maybe getting a wifi router with 1Gb ports with the hub in modem mode could help.

Thanks for your suggestion, I will try it once I get a router.

Hi @Kmp

Can you connect the Nintendo Switch with an ethernet cable?

You can use a wired LAN adapter on both the Switch and the Switch Lite (you would also need a Dual USB PlayStand if you have the Switch Lite)

It's pretty straight forward Nintendo Switch/FAQ/How-to-Connect-to-the-Internet-Using-a-Wired-Connection

Just have a search on Amazon - Dual USB PlayStand around £25.

I use the edimax eu-4306  USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with my Switch

Hi @newapollo,

Thanks for your advice, I will find an adapter to try it - hoping it works!

I suggest you first do a complete factory reset, then the wired conection should almost certainly work.

@legacy1

ethernet cable connection, via USB adapter, didn’t solve DNS resolution.

@Roger_Gooner

factory rest was done several times, but didn’t work for the DNS resolution issue.

As all of the suggested ways didn’t work and even VM gadget rescue team couldn’t solve it, it seems Nintendo Switch can’t be connected via Hub 4.0!

This worked for me on a HUB 4, on the router go to:

Advanced Setting -> Wireless -> Security

Set Wireless MAC filtering to Deny

Ensure Wireless filter list is empty.

Connect the Nintendo Switch to WiFi as normal with Auto IP Address and Auto DNS Server.
