I am troubleshooting something unrelated, and someone helping me wants to know if my ISP is using CGNAT. I'm not sure what this is, but in any case, how do I find this information out?

Your Hub is assigned a public IP Address, i.e. traffic can be routed to it over the internet; this is not possible with CGNAT where private IP Addresses are used.

If you are having issues, consult a pc network advisor or YouTube videos.

Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT), also known as large-scale NAT (LSN), is a type of network address translation used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to manage the shortage of IPv4 addresses. Here’s a simple breakdown:

  1. Purpose: CGNAT allows multiple customers to share a single public IP address. This is crucial because the pool of available IPv4 addresses is limited and nearly exhausted12.

  2. How It Works: In a typical home network, your router assigns private IP addresses to your devices and translates them to a single public IP address when accessing the internet. CGNAT does something similar but at the ISP level. It translates private IP addresses from multiple customers to a shared public IP address13.

  3. Benefits:

  4. Drawbacks:

  5. Transition to IPv6: CGNAT is considered a temporary solution until IPv6, which has a much larger add...2.
