Internet super slow and TV can’t cope!

Hi,

I’d really appreciate some help (not tech minded!)

We have the Hub5 but it just can’t handle putting WiFi round the house (it’s not a huge house by any means, standard 4 bed) so on advice I recently switched it to modem mode and have been running a Tenda AC1200 Whole Home Mesh System with 2 extra pods.

This had been working great until the last week where the WiFi is painfully slow/intermittent and watching anything at all on catch up/on demand or even record is impossible.

Ive switched it on and off but just can’t seem to improve things. Shame as we’d missed recording lots of Christmas Specials - spent over an hour trying to fix this last night so we could watch something.

If anyone could help at all I’d be so grateful!

Many thanks, Rachel

Others are much better placed to advise on the WiFi-setup, but you've alluded to problems recording TV. That shouldn't be an issue and may suggest multiple problems here - live TV doesn't use the internet. If you're talking about watching recorded programmes on a VM TV box, that uses the hard drive.

It's only if you have multiple VM TV boxes in your home and are streaming recordings between them, that the wireless connnection could be an issue.

My guess is it’s probably a circuit problem. Please supply some stats:

How to get stats from a VM hub (no need to logon to the hub)

Open a web browser and go to 192.168.0.1 router mode or 192.168.100.1 modem mode

  • Click on the “> Check router status” button
  • Click on the “Downstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply, do not take a screen shot
  • Click on the “Upstream” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply
  • Click on the “Networking” tab, copy the text and paste into your reply.
    • Do NOT post photos or screen shots they will be rejected as they contain MAC addresses. The

board software will automatically change MAC addresses to **:** if done as above.

Hopefully that’s everything you asked for!

Thank you so much for helping me!

Nothing obvious in those stats, just two points, 1) you can ignore any log messages with a ‘warning’ flag 2) downstream within spec, but on the low side. You could check if you have an attenuator in the circuit, it is a small unit plugged into the back of the hub usually marked 3, 6 or 10dbm. If there is one you could try removing it and see if there is any change.

Next thing to do is to setup a Broadband Quality Monitor and post a link to your live graph. It monitors your connection 24/7 and provides diagnosis of any underlying issues
