"the number of users who want modem mode is, probably, small" possibly true, but with more and more customers becoming technically savvy and the inadequacy of the hubs network switch, DHCP server and WiFi they are increasing. Another factor is that the customers who currently run in modem mode tend to be high end customers who are paying the most to VM. With the advent of more fibre choices in a lot of areas these customers will just move to other ISPs losing VM a large amount of revenue. I for one have never ever run my VM hubs in router mode and if my connection is changed to fibre with no modem mode would certainly leave.
