I have 1gig internet and seem to be struggling with speed to devices, some are getting 2-400mbps via wireless connection. I have my desktop connected via cat5e ethernet but can only seem to get 100mbps out of it. Can anyone help?

First try new cable. Get a new Cat6a one (better shielding) as older ones can and do fail and drop down to 100 (max). Also check that the network card speed setting hasnt dropped from 1GB to 100 - that sometimes happens, Also that its drivers are up to date

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's & TP-Link Archer C64 WAP. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Thanks John, The cable is wired through the house as part of a renovation we did last year so is pretty much brand new, drivers are updated and card speed is correct.

Buy a cheap cable tester from Amazon, could save you a lot of trouble. Could be a bad plug or crossed wires. 1G Ethernet requires all four pairs in the cable, blue & blue/white + brown & brown/white + green & green white + orange & orange/white. 100M only requires  two pairs green & green/white + orange & orange/white.

That would certainly be a good buy and do all the tests you need.

Or get a 10/20/50 metre run of Cat5e/6a cable (<~£10) and use that to test the connections of each of your devices at their locations to the Hub directly. Just trail it over carpet/upstairs etc temporarily for the duration of the tests. Then roll it up and put it in the bits drawer till next time
