Hi.

You are right. The Virgin 4 hub only puts out 600-850mbps in modem mode.

I haven't had much luck using the Virgin hubs. They don't like network switches, terrible at port forwarding and brake down with all the devices in my family home.  I have a netgear Nighthawk X6 and that worked flawlessly in the past. Unfortunately in my case. I only get 600-800mbps ish. When I run the Virgin hub in modern mode with my X6. The Netgear has the specs and I've updated the firmware.

To get my network up and running with full speed (So I get around 950+mbps constant). I have to leave the Virgin hub as the router and my 3rd party Netgear as a access point. Having the network switches daisy chaining from that.

The Ethernet cable from the Virgin hub has to be. NOT into the internet decayed rj-45 socket but placed into one of the four ports on the back of my Netgear when running it as an access point.

Also you'll need at least Cat5e cable. Cat5 won't work.

I hope this helps you.

"The Virgin 4 hub only puts out 600-850mbps in modem mode." Totally wrong.

Just done this speed test.

Speedtest by Ookla

Server: Cerberus Networks Ltd - London (id = 32944)
ISP: Virgin Media
Latency: 10.76 ms (0.71 ms jitter)
Download: 840.85 Mbps (data used: 1.2 GB)
Upload: 43.36 Mbps (data used: 64.8 MB)

This is on a "bad" day, often get up to 960 Mbps.

My router is a Ubiquiti Dream Machine Pro.

I'm happy for you. It's not the case for me. Maybe it's because I can't read binary.

Also. When I run it as an access point. I'm always getting over 950. Even on good or bad days.

Get a faster router.

Test by wire to the hub in modem mode without a router.

If you are taking to me. I will try the Cat 6 Ethernet cable from Virgin Hub 4 (in modem mode) without the 3rd party router. I also need to try HW acceleration.

I'm off work tomorrow. I'll try both and get back to everyone.

I've only had the Virgin hub for a short while.

Also. I've tested the open port through the internet. One day it worked. The next day it was blocked. I didn't change a thing. So I assumed it would still be open the next day. All ip addresses using open ports are static.
