Hi,
I have followed a few other guides on here to turn the Hub 3 into Modem Mode and connect a TP-Link AC1200 (VR400) to use as a router but it's just not working.
When I go through the quick install I do not know what to input as "username & password", it doesn't tell me if what I put is correct and when I get to the end there is no internet. When I then change the setting to Wireless Router Mode after it reboots it doesn't let me to chose the IP anymore.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

The initial setup of modem mode can be tricky..
Log into the hub on http://192.168.0.1 and select the option to put the hub into modem mode
The hub will then reboot and come back up in modem mode - give it five minutes to settle down
Disconnect all ethernet cables from the hub
Power off the Hub and your router/mesh system
Connect your router/mesh system to the hub via ethernet cable and switch it on - leave it five minutes to settle down
Power on the hub and leave it five minutes to settle down
Should all be working.
the username/password for the TP link device should either be printed on it, or in the quickstart guide or similar..

Hi, I quick look at TP-Link AC1200 (VR400) shows that it is a VDSL/ADSL Modem Router and as such is not compatible with the Virgin Hub... You need a cable router like this https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/wifi-router/archer-c1200/

Hi kpanchev,
Thank you for your reply, even with Hub in Modem Mode will this router not work?
Thanks,

No, it won't. You need to connect the cable from port1 on the hub to the WAN port of the router, on the one you have the WAN port is a RJ11 (telephone) plug, not a RJ45 (Ethernet) plug.
Completely different and incompatible standards.

Hi kpanchev,
Thank you again for your reply! I will return this VR400 - can you 100% confirm a C1200 will work? TP Link Archer C1200 AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router | Ebuyer.com
Or are there similar priced routers recommended with Virgin Media and the Hub 3? This all began due to SIP ALG interfering with VoIP calls so I need something I can manage better.
Thanks

If you decided for TP-Link then these 2 fit your budget.

Yes, the one you have selected will work. My personal preference though is this one:
Unfortunately a bit more expensive and out of stock at the moment, but this is what I use myself at home.

Sorry to potentially contradict but it would appear the VR400 should work on a cable connection (including VM) - the manufacturer claims it does - see their website;
https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/dsl-modem-router/archer-vr400/#specifications
One of the yellow Ethernet sockets is a WAN/LAN connection and that would be the one to connect to the Virgin Hub (in modem mode).
Ignore all the DSL settings/port and use the right settings and socket for cable connections - Internet connection type: DHCP I should imagine as shown on pages 14/15 onwards in the manual

See my other reply - the V400 appears to have a RJ45 WAN/LAN socket and support cable connections such as Virgin Media.
The WAN/LAN socket can be used either for the incoming internet connection or for connecting devices - the other three yellow sockets are LAN only, for devices only. The internet connection type needs to be set correctly in the router config.
