Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

This new Hub 3 is doing my head in.It seems I can have the 2.4Ghz active or the 5GHz but not both grrr, spit, grrrr.

If both enabled it keeps asking for password and then saying it is incorrect. Anyone got both channels working? I usually have the iPads & iPhones on the 5Ghz and leave the 2.4Ghz for the 'droids.

Software version is 9.1.1802.610, downloaded during setup today.

Hello Jeffd,

Thanks for posting,

The Hub 3 has both combined so it'll always move across to the best connection for your device 🙂

Kind regards,

Why does it keep asking for password and then saying its incorrect, in effect I can't connect to WiFi when both "signals" are active. It doesn't do that with only one in use? Worked fine on "super"hub 2 each had it's own ssid and separate pw.

Some devices do not like having both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands on the same named SSID. Best to separate the SIDS and give them names like xxx-2 and xxx-5, easily done in the settings of the Hub3. You can have the same password for both SSIDs. Just connect to which one you require.

Re: Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

had different ssid with same password - couldn't access wifi when both active.

Have just tried having ssid the same on both and it works fine on iPad, get 52Mb download but on 'droid phone only get 2.32Mb download.

The Hub3 isn't the best device I've come across 🙂

Ah I see. What speeds are you getting on the wired connection?

Thanks

Re: Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

Hi Ben,

If I disable 5Ghz, the iPad still has a download of 52Mb.

Wileyfox Swift 2X (Android 8.1) on 2.4Ghz Hub3 download 2.1Mb

Wileyfox Swift 2X (Android 8.1) on 2.4Ghz HomeLAN WAP 22.4Mb

Lenovo Android 7.? on Hub 3 2.4Ghz download 37.6Mb

Lenovo Android 7.? on HomeLAN 2.4Ghz download 27.8Mb

Desktop Win 10 on HomeLAN Wired 55Mb, used to get similar with hub2.

Hub 3 doesn't seem to like my Wileyfox :-((

To recap:-

The Hub 2 had different SSID for the 2.4Ghz & 5.0Ghz using same pw and it's worked like this for a few years.

The Hub 3 seems to need the SSID to be the same  for both 2.4 & 5Ghz or I can't connect to either.

Is this normal or have I got a dodgy router ?

Re: Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

That doesn't sound right.

Intelligent WiFi does band steering to ensure all devices are performing optimally.

You can still split the bands if you wish, you'd just need to rename the two bands something different, and set a password.

Can you try a pin hole reset to set everything to default and then split the bands again?

Re: Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

Did that a few times yesterday but have done it again today, no change.

Separate / different SSID don't accept password / authentication so can login to neither, unless I disable one.

Thinking I might go back to hub 2, I can't see any advantage in Hub 3. In theory I should be able to use the VM Connect app but it doesn't work on either my Swift 2X or iPad.

Re: Hub 3 Wifi can use 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz but not both

Sounds like it could be a faulty hub as I haven't seen this problem reported before. Separating 2.4/5Ghz is usually the recommended course of action and shouldn't cause any problems.
