How to set up Hub_3 in Modem Mode with TP-Link Router ??

Hi Guys,

I have a TP-Link Archer VR2800 DSL Modem Router.

I am going to move ISP and go with Virgin Media.

I want to run the Virgin media Hub 3 in Modem Mode.

And use the Archer as the Main Router.

My current setting for the Archer Gateway is:192.168.0.1

As I understand, I need to enter the virgin HUB3

At 192.168.0.1 and once logged in click on Modem Mode and apply changes.

Once in Modem mode the IP address changes from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.100.1

In the Archer Router I need to go on Advanced>operation Mode and change the setting from DSL Modem Router Mode to Wireless Mode.

At this point I should say I have loads of equipment running on ethernet CAT6 cable and wireless.

How do I connect Archer and Hub 3 together ? LAN Port to LAN port WAN port ?

Does it matter which ones I use ?

Do I need to put an IP address into the Archer for the HUB3 ?

A detailed step by step guide would be helpful

Thanks Guys

More or less yes

You are quite right about getting the VM Hub into modem mode, connect either one of the ports on the VM hub to the LAN/WAN port on the Archer. What I'm not sure about is how you tell the Archer to stop being a DSL modem and accept the WAN connection into the ethernet port. Switching it to wifi mode doesn't seem right to me as I suspect that will turn it into just a wifi access point and cut out all the router features - which won't be good.

The WAN connection  on the Archer just needs to be in DHCP mode so it will pick up the public IP address from the VM Hub.

Thanks  Jem101 for your thoughts .

I thought the same about the wifi mode !

Do you know if I should put the VM Modems IP address (192.168.100.1 ) into the Archer Router

Or by the fact that they are hard wired together by CAT6 cable it does not matter ?

No don't put anything into the Archer router. The 192.168.100.1 address is only to access the web management page, the hub will 'pass through' the actual public WAN address to the router - if it's in dynamic IP address mode it should just pick it up.
